"Ow!" I couldn't help blurting out, gritting my teeth as my head kept hitting the edge of the stairs. Really, if you're gonna drag me up somewhere, the least you could do is carry me or making me walk against my will, but this is just too much. Though, considering that one of the people dragging me is Daichi, I wouldn't expect any less from him. Ever since we met earlier, he seems to be incredibly mad at me no matter what. First, he knocked me out and brought me to the student council room because I wasn't in class. Then, he tried to force me into the student council and got irritated when the temporary SC President went easy on me. Which led to him roughing me up when he returned me to class, saying that he will erase me if I get on his bad side, the Student Council's bad side, or if I'm useless to either. No matter what, he does not like me...and I know it's not due to me not being in class that one time. Is he just the generic bully with power, or is there an actual reason?
In any case, after we reached the top of the staircase, I hear a door open from behind me. Since I'm facing the other way, I only saw rays of sunlight comes from behind me, which meant that they were bringing me to the rooftop. Though, I wondered why they came and got me like that when the meeting wasn't for another half hour. Could they have been spying on me and listening in on our conversation? If they did, they may already know about the mask, the message, and everything we discussed...though, I don't get how that conversation could lead them to dragging me up to the roof. I'm not a genius, but I don't believe the rooftop is where the Student Council club gathers. However, I couldn't do a single thing about it, so I just stayed quiet.
"You think this may work? Not that I give a damn about the guy, but this could end bad if it doesn't kick in." I heard Daichi questio- wait, what did he mean by that?
"I'm pretty sure that it will. I've seen enough shows to know that it will work. Just get ready throw." Naoko repli- wait, throwing?!
"Hey! What are you two gonna do?!" I exclaimed, tilting my head back to look at the two. Daichi just gave me a grin that sent many bad signals through my head instantaneously.
"If you didn't know already, we heard about that whole thing about how you can get to use your property. We don't have enough patience to wait for another situation to pop up so you can get control of that mask, so I have thought of the best possible option we can take so you are thrown into that little space of yours. Though, I do have to say that failing means....well, let's just say that you won't be of use to anyone anymore. Daichi, on my go." Naoko explained.
"What do you mean by- hey...you're not planning on..." I weakly said, thinking they were joking. My hands gradually moved to the chains and I slightly started to break them somehow.
"One, two..." Naoko counted. They...are not kidding. I started frantically trying to, with no success whatsoever, break away. I'm gonna die...I'M GONNA DIE!
"WAIT A MINUTE!" I exclaimed.
"Three!" Naoko finished and I felt myself get tugged by the chains wrapped around me as I was lifted off the ground and backwards. As soon as I saw the safe railing, I knew what was really happening. To get me to use my time ability again so I could get the mask, thus gaining control of my power, they needed to put me in a situation where it had to work. The situation they thought of...throwing me off the roof of the school. I couldn't help but scream my head off as I fell down towards the sidewalk waiting below, trying to find something to grab on with no success. As there was only a little bit of time left before I go 'splat' on the ground in non-comedic fashion, the thought that raced through my mind was the pleads for the property to kick in and save my life from being ended by falling from a building.
However, it doesn't and I feel every bone in my body break as I collide into the ground. I was still surprised I still had consciousness as my head was turned to the side. Of course, my neck was broken, so I just stared as blood came from me. My jaw was broken too, so I couldn't say anything either. I just looked at the red pool get bigger and my vision get more fuzzy. The last thing to cross my mind was the thought of my sister possibly being sad at the death of her brother. I'm sorry.
Of course, I'm kidding.
Right before I struck the ground, failing at my goal of surviving high school, I suddenly felt myself hit the cold ground, but for some reason, it didn't hurt at all. I opened my eyes to see a white ceiling, meaning that my ability had actually kicked in. My right hand went immediately to the center of my chest, feeling the fast beating of my heart as I tried to slow my rapid breathing down to normal by trying to calm down. I'm alive? I'M ALIVE! I couldn't help but laugh for no reason whatsoever, almost like I had gone insane. Maybe I was glad to be just alive, or laughing because I could, I didn't really care. But, after I stopped laughing, I slowly became so pissed off that my blood could start to boil and be hot enough to cook rice. I couldn't believe they would throw me off a damn roof! I mean, it kinda make sense to put me in a kind of situation so it would have to kick in, but I'm pretty sure there were a number of other ways THAN ATTEMPTED MURDER!
Anyway, I suddenly remember what I needed to do. Assuming that I am in the space again and not in the afterlife, the person with the mask should be around somewhe-well then. As I sat up off the ground, I was face to face, well, mask, with the person with a mask and no face. The clock on the mask was not moving yet, so I guess time was at a standstill currently. Looking around, I noticed that, instead of a hallway, I was now inside a classroom that doesn't resemble any I have been in whatsoever. (Yes, Japanese classrooms look different per school. If you think otherwise, you watch too much anime.) Looking outside the window, cherry blossom leaves flew down very elegantly to the point that it could be an expensive art. Lastly, there was only one desk in the entire room, which was set in the dead center of said classroom and to my left.
The person with the mask tilted their head as they looked at me. Now that I think about, I wonder what it's like to have a mask, but no face. Can he even see? I know that he can speak, since he spoke last time to me and screamed at me, but does he have a sense of smell or sight? In any case, I tried to siege my opportunity as I reached for the mask that I needed to get to control my power.
"Stop!" I immediately heard from behind the mask, but it kinda sounded like my own voice. Not knowing what would happen if I didn't listen, I stopped my hand and dropped it back to my side. At other times, my curiosity would probably just cause me to grab the mask anyway and put it on, after falling from a building and almost dying, I'm kinda in the mood to not put myself in another deadly situation at all.
"Why?" I curiously ask him. Even if I wasn't gonna push my chances, especially considering the fact that I ALMOST DIED, I still wanted to know why I couldn't touch the mask. Also, now that I've heard his voice a second time, he sounded like a guy to me, (Since he sounds like me) so now, I'll refer to him as the masked man.
"Because you don't know how much power this mask contains." He stated as he stood up and pointed to the desk. "Go sit down. I need to tell you everything you will need to know. Otherwise, stuff won't go the way you or anyone will want it to. Trust me." He asked with a calm voice. To me, he sounds really distant for some reason with a hint of coldness, but yet so composed and on point. Who exactly is this person anyway? A figment of my imagination...or maybe just an instruction book in human form? But, if he's one of those, why does he seem like he's been through a lot? Either way, I just took my seat and looked at the mask man as he stood in front of me.
"Tokachi Ren, my name is Izanagi Koichi, but you can refer to me as Koichi. You could say that I am the one who had this property before you as I am your past life. Before I explain to you how this ability is meant to be used properly, I have to tell you this right now: Time is not your friend. It should be your tool that you use when the moment is dire, but you should never depend on it for everything. Doing that is very dangerous and could backfire in the worst ways imaginable. It doesn't matter if you want to use it to succeed in school, get a girlfriend, or whatever, you must not use this property for bullshit reasons like what I just listed. Do you understand my warning, Tokachi Ren?" Koichi asked me, to which I nodded my head.
"Now, here's the thing: You can't access this property completely, since this is only your second time of using it unconsciously, though I do have to be honest and say that I technically have use of the entire property." Koichi explains.
"Wait, what? Why- oh, the mask." I said, remembering that the mask is the property in a concrete form.
"Correct and Incorrect. The mask does hold every bit of the property, but, technically, you don't need the mask to use a small fraction of the property. Also, it's probably best you don't touch or wear this mask to protect yourself from being overwhelmed and to keep you from going haywire with the ability. I don't know if I trust you yet with it or not, seeing how it could be used for wrong and can lead to very terrible things happening, so, for now, I am only allowing you one part of this property: The ability to go back in time up to 20 minutes at a given point. You can decide how much you wanna go back in that range just by thinking about it, but to do that, you have to know what the current time is at all times. Otherwise, something bad may happen and I can't help you with that. Here, I'll help you use it this one time. It's currently 4:55 PM and you left the Anime Guild approximately 5 minutes ago after you were dragged out by chains. Think about what you wanna do and don't waste my or your time." Koichi finished.
I find it a bit unfair that I can't use the ability that's suppose to be mine now. Though, considering this is my first day in this weird world full of Mystics, Properties, and a girl who likes to play with people's emotions by pointing an unloaded gun at someone, I don't think I'm ready for a full blast into being like them. I'd prefer to ease my way into being like them, but seeing how my ability is considered more powerful, I don't know if I can ever have that normal school life or even have friends without them looking at my ability and being my friend just because of that. I don't wanna be above anyone or be someone who shows off his ability to get people to care about him. I wanna be normal...even if I don't know what 'normal' is in this strange school.
In any case, I thought for a bit about how far back I wanna go. I don't really think I'd be able to do anything while getting dragged, nor do I think I can break those chains either, so I think I may have to go back to when I'm free from said chains and develop a plan from there. Of course, that only left me with the obvious decision, which is 6 minutes back right before the Student Council busted in. Just as I thought that, the clock on Koichi's mask started going backwards until it showed that it was 4:49, at which point everything suddenly went black. In the blink of an eye, I appeared back in the Anime Guild room, sitting in that black bean bag with my flip phone in hand. Wow, I can't believe that actually worked.
"A Face with A Mask, A Mask with A Face!" Tetsu exclaimed with a bright smile, like I remembered it from before. I caught of glimpse of the clock, which showed that it was almost 4:50, knowing exactly what was gonna happen next. When the room went quiet, I quickly used my phone to type in something that would change the future. As soon as I was done, I immediately showed the screen to Tetsu, who looked at me with a weird face. 'When I say 'now', use three nails and aim them past my head. Don't ask, just do it.'
Just as I pulled my phone back, the door busted open. "Now!" I yelled at Tetsu, who reluctantly clicked his tongue and sent three nails flying right past both sides of my head. These nails went on to pin the chains that would have grabbed my arms down to the ground. Feeling like I was pretty cool, I turned my head towards Daichi and Naoko with a grin. "Sorry, but I don't feel like getting kidnapped today."
