"You didn't have to do that, you know? You could have like, I don't know...EXPLAINED IT TO HIM!" "You dare yell at me, Tetsu? I-" "Don't use my first name so casually!" "I can't call you 'Toshiro'. Only an actual smart person can have that name."
As I slowly came to, these voices rang in my ears as my eyes inched open. The first thing I saw blue hair, which made me suddenly picture the guy from home room who was asleep. Surely enough, when I was fully awake, I saw that it really was him. However, the thing that made him look weird was this necklace of his that was gold and in the shape of a star. 'Sora' was printed on the front, as well as the date 2/21/15.
"Look who's awake." I heard from above me as I looked up. I had realized not that long ago that my head was resting on a soft cushion. So, I wasn't surprised at the fact that someone was right above me...but the thing I was surprised at who was letting my head rest on their lap.
"AHHH!" I screamed as I quickly rose to my feet and bolted to the door, but I suddenly feel something wrap around by lower abdomen and pull me with incredible force in the other direction. Before I knew it, my back collided into the wall and I felt an intense pain in the back of my head as I fell to the ground on my side. The only sound leaving my mouth was the painful grunt that left my lips when I went 'splat' against the wall.
"Sorry, but we can't have you running out like a maniac. The SC may think we're using torture methods to make you join." She said as a black shadow slowly disappeared into her own. All I could do was try to make sense of what I just saw.
"Why the hell did you do that to him?" The guy with blue hair shrugged, almost like he felt my pain. He quickly made his way over to me and offered a hand while still looking at the girl who had flung me like a one-way boomerang. I weakly grabbed his hand for him to pull me up to my feet. "Hello. You must be Tokachi Ren. My name is Toshiro Tetsu and this poor excuse of a girl over here is Shoru Yuki."
"I know who she is. She threatened to blow my brains out with a revolver!" I pointed my hand at Yuki while still talking to Tetsu. All he did was sigh while bringing his hand up to his face before turning to Yuki and pointing two fingers at her. With a click of his tongue, it took 3 seconds before Yuki was pinned against a wall with long nails (the ones that you screw into wood) going through her shirt around her shoulders. Sadly, it seems like it didn't go through her shoulder, but holy shit... this guy is like that blue guy from this one movie about guardians in a far away galaxy.
"What the hell...?" I could only whisper as weird stuff was happening before my eyes.
"Wha- You didn't tell him?" Tetsu scolded Yuki.
"Hey, don't blame me. He passed out before I could tell him anything." Yuki retorted.
"Well, if you didn't hold him at gun point-"
"He kept lying to me. You should never lie to a goddess like me."
"You're more like a demon. Probably Lucifer. Anyway..." Tetsu turned to me with a serious expression as he started, "...you see, this city you live in is not like any other. If I had to say what we are, then we are Mystics. There's really nothing different between a normal human and a Mystic except for our Mystical Properties, which people usually call 'super powers' or 'abilities'. Really, I get annoyed every time people call it 'powers'. I mean, I understand where people are coming from with that...but why?" He facepalms again with an irritated sigh.
"Powers." Yuki taunted, receiving another nail extremely close to her neck.
I just stare at it with wide eyes as Tetsu almost sent a nail through her throat. "Me and you both will never kill me. Instead, keep explaining the situation."
"Grrr...Anyway, everyone in this city is a Mystic...and when I say everyone, I mean everyone. This includes you as well...but, you are unique from everyone else. If what Shoru-chan told me is correct, you must have the Mystical Property of Time. An unstable variation, but it's better than nothing."
"Wait a minute...do you mean I have control over time?"
"Well...yes and no. You see, our powers are able to be used whenever we are in specific cities or places in the world. Telling by how yours currently work, this must be your first time in a Mystic City. Due to this fact, your property would usually be weak and hard to use...but, since you have a time property, yours isn't exactly weak as it is incredibly unstable."
This was a lot to take in for me as I walked around the room and ended up in between Yuki and Tetsu. Mystics, Properties, Mystic Cities, Unstable control over time...what have I gotten myself into? This is something that you'd see in an anime or a movie. A kid that transfers to a new school, finds out they have a power that trumps over others, and ends up beating everyone and their mother in the end. I could already tell this would be a long ride…
"Moving on," Tetsu continued, "unlike other cities, this one is currently locked in a kind of civil war, but it's only between the Mystic Schools and students of said schools. This is a Mystic school, obviously, but the thing is about Misaki High is that...well..."
"We have the second best prestige in the city, which makes us a secondary target out of the 6 others schools below us and the #1 school, Saisho High." Yuki interrupted.
"Like she said. So, with this war happening, students from the other schools will constantly try to take you down to get an advantage in the war. I mean, even if you're lowering the number of opponents a little bit, losing one person can really change the tides. I mean, there was this one time whe-"
"Stay on point, Tetsu-san." Yuki interrupted again, using her shadows to pull the nails out of her shirt and stand between me and Tetsu, facing me most of all. "Long story short, if you don't join a club, you're a goner, so I ask that you join this one...the Anime Guild. What do you say?" She said with a bright smile while extending her hand to me.
So, to sum up everything, I'm a unique Mystic with an uncontrollable time property, caught up in a city-wide war among the schools where not joining a club could leave me in a position to get hurt or killed...I swear that this is both the best and worst day of my life. This means that I have to join a club, master my skills in using my ability, and help this school win a war to survive high school? This would really be an anime I would watch, but could be bad if written wrong...or given an anime-original ending. Clearly, I'm the protagonist of this story and the logical answer is to accept, shake her hand, learn more about this new world I have entered, and be the hero that saves the day...but…
'...you seem to be handling everything as if you were in a visual novel...or, rather, an anime.'
I reach my hand out towards Yuki, giving her the impression that I'm gonna shake her hand and join the Anime Guild, but, instead, I slap it away and start walking to the door.
"I told you before...I don't wanna join this club of yours...or anything that involves you in it. If I must join a club, it will not be this one." I calmly stated, looking back at Yuki and giving her a cold glance as I made my way out and back to class with my fist curled up into a ball. I will not be made out to be some guy known to make all his decisions based on anime logic. I will do things the real way and find the group I need that can actually defend me and help me become good at this power of mine, all without the help of that bitch. As I thought about that, I suddenly realize that I still didn't know my way around the school, so I decide to look around for someone who can help guide me back to the class I should be in. At first, I don't see anyone at all who can help, the hallways cleared since classes are going on, but as soon as I turn a single direction, a guy is suddenly in my face.
"You are coming with me." He simply said and, in a split second, I was out like a light.
